I owned an old, expensive Magellan and was never truly happy with it because is was wrong so much of the time. I know that is not always the GPS manufacturer's fault, but it was frustrating. Had one experience where it just shut down in mid-Maine,,,froze up. The company could not help me and I had to sit on my cell phone with the folks at the place where I was going, to get there. Very frustrating indeed. The Nuvi 760 gets lost too, but so far not as much. I love the display and the options. One thing I do not like is the sound quality if using books/music/hands free phone options. Sound is not even good when I run it through my stereo. My feeling is if they are going to market the product touting these options, then the options should work well. If I had known the Garmin 760 would be so nice, I would have waited a few weeks and bought a Garmin 765 since the 760 has been discontinued! The only additional things I would have liked to have on the 760 are the things they've included on the 765 (lane advisor and lifetime traffic). Also, it would have been nice to have included an FM radio tuner they would have been configured the same way the MP3 player is, that is, to mute the music volume whenever traffice and road instructions are announced. The traffic avoidance was a bit slow. On my first trip, it didn't acknowledge road contruction ahead until it was too late to avoid it but, it did find a route around it before it got too bad. I have friends who've bought 760's when the price was hundreds more and none of them has ever had any regrets or problems. I cannot rate the performance of the Nuvi 760 very well, but I can tell you about Garmin's service.
First of all, documentation is terribly inadequate.

As part of the service, purchasers are entitled to a free map update. That is where the problem started. It takes forever to download the installer. After that, you must download the map file and unzip it. Then you need to transfer this enormous file into your Garmin device. According to the screen message, this could take up to two hours.

Time after time, my transfer failed at 54%. I wrote to tech support. Not much help. I called tech support. This process takes hours. I was transferred to a higher level tech support. Still, no progress. The last techie said to send the device back and get another. Fortunately made the exchange very easy and fast.

Now I had a fresh GPS device. Same problem. Tach support apparently only reads parts of the letter. They ignore important passages. Still not help. FINALLY, I recieved a response from a sympathetic tech support guy. He said that I should try the usb port on the back of machine, not the front. I had already done that days ago. He also said to check the USB chipset. If they did not say "Intel," they may not work with the Nuvi. I checked the chips and they did not mention Intel. I guess that is the problem. The techie wrote that I should try another computer.

Had someone told me this weeks ago, I would have saved a lot of time and money. Why does not tech support share this information?

I'm using this GPS device in Saudi Arabia with the latest Garmin Maps for the middle east and Garmin has the best POI's for the middle east.

Device itself is sleek looking and fairly pocketable. My major quibble would be that the FM transmitter is way too underpowered and causes a lot of static. The GPS takes a VERY long time to lock on if you start driving without getting a lock on when stationary.

Also, the phone feature, while great, had callers on the other end complaining about echos and my voice being muffled.

Good bluetooth functionality was a priority for me.
This GPS did not give me good sound quality (incoming or outgoing) with either of my phones

Blackberry Pearl 8130.

I contacted the customer support and they had me upgrade my software etc to the latest but that did not help. Eventually one of them mentioned that my phones above are not listed on the compatibility list and that could be the problem.

I, however, tried to test it with a friend's iPhone which is supposed to the compatible, but even that did not work well.

All in all, a disappointing experience with the Bluetooth and I had to return it to Amazon. I hope I get a full refund!

I purchased this Garmin as a replacement for my 660 which died an early death.
I purchased a nuvi again because I had become used to the first one and it did
work well for the 2 and a half years before it started asking me if we were in Kansas!!
No, we were in VA.
This one is pretty much the same as the other. However it does have a speed limit box which gives you the limit of the road on which you are driving. It also has a place you can press to give you
your current location immediately and the location of the closest Hospital, Fuel etc. Both of these
features are very helpful.
I find that I have to press the screen a little harder than on the Nuvi 660 which can be
annoying and I also find that the letters for spelling out the address are a little smaller
leading to more redoing.
I would recommend this very simple and relatively inexpensive nuvi to anyone who needs to know BOTH where they are AND how to get someplace. Some of the less expensive ones are really only good at telling you how to get someplace. I personally need both. Because you can press on the screen and
move the map around you can better explore your current location.

I like this GPS much better than my previous Garmin, the only thing I will suggest the developers is that for traffic reports while the traffic is updating, the route should update as well if traffic has clear out so the GPS goes back to the fastest way to the destination. It has happened to me several times that I have to re-enter my destination to calculate my route when the traffic alerts has disappear or is not as bad anymore. This applies specially on long rides where the traffic may be several miles away. The Garminm 760 I just purchased is a replacement for my Nuvi 200. It has more features including blue tooth capability, which is the main reason I bought it.
I did have a problem right out of the box. The 760 lost it's voice after a hour of use. Garmin support, via the internet, fixed the problem and downloaded the latest version of maps. ( They call it the 2010 maps, even though it was June of 09). Support from Garmin on this incident was 5 star. They were easy to reach and very helpful. I haven't used all the features on this unit as yet, but for the rouine trip routing and Points of interest it is very good. The 4.3 in screen is a big improvement especially when entering addresses.
